An English Summer Garden Party

A wonderful summer’s celebration

On Saturday 1st July the Parents’ Committee organised summer event, ‘An English Summer Garden Party’ took place, an occasion filled with entertainment and enjoyment for all ages.  Families gathered in the Meadow from 1.00pm to enjoy all that was on offer throughout the afternoon.

Stalls offering refreshments, including a barbecue, a Pimm’s stall, cakes and cook drinks prepared by pupils, a tombola, the chance to win raffle prizes, face-painting and headdress-making were all there.

In addition, there was a vast array of entertainment on offer.  On the outdoor stage, Upper II began the Shakespearean proceedings with the Fairy Prologue from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ which was followed by Form III’s performances of ‘As You Like It’ and ‘Antony and Cleopatra’.  Our music groups also performed  – from the choirs to the flute and string ensembles to the orchestras, the afternoon was filled with some lovely sounds.

Our St Augustine’s Priory Staff Band also delivered a quite amazing set, performing  ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Ticket to Ride’, ‘My Generation’ and ‘Is this the way to Amarillo.’ Audience participation was encouraged!  Our cheerleaders gave a jaw-dropping display of acrobatics and Lower IV also performed two Shakespeare plays, ‘Twelfth Night’ and ‘Julius Caesar’.    We welcomed Mr Derek Grimshaw, of Grimshaw and Co (local estate agents who this year are celebrating their half century) who drew the tickets for the raffle prizes – of which there were many.

The Parents’ Committee organised a wonderful summer’s afternoon which was enjoyed by all and raised over £4,000.  Thank you to the committee, our great Augustinian performers, everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and the tombola and all those who gave of their time and energy to help on the day in all areas.   And finally, thank you to all who came and enjoyed our ‘English Summer Garden Party’, a lovely way to celebrate summer.
