Students are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results, with strong performances across the breadth of the curriculum alongside some exceptional individual achievements.

The results continue a hugely positive summer for the school, following outstanding A-level results last week, with 48% of grades at A*–A and 84% at A*–B, alongside an exciting range of destinations for pupils as they take their next steps.

This year, 32% of all GCSE grades were awarded at grades 9-8 (A*), while 54% were at grades 9-7 (A*-A), reflecting the consistently high academic standards achieved by pupils across the school.

Among many excellent individual performances were Elkie who achieved an exceptional eight grade 9s and two grade 8s; Róisín secured six grade 9s and three grade 8s; Aline celebrated an impressive set of results with eight grade 9s and one grade 8 and Eliza gained seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and one 7.

She spoke warmly of the incredible support and encouragement she had received from all her teachers, giving a special mention to Mrs Toynton, whose teaching and support in Spanish had made such a difference.

Shanay reflected on how nervous she had felt before receiving her results; she was delighted to discover that she had achieved Grade 9 in Maths. She credited the result not only to her own hard work, but also to the encouragement and belief of her teacher. With the nerves now behind her, she is looking forward to celebrating later with a well-deserved celebratory meal!

Mae put her fantastic results to resilience and hard work and is now looking forward to the next chapter, studying History, Politics and French at A Level.

There were particularly impressive results across Creative Arts and Modern Languages.

Modern Languages was an area of exceptional strength with 94% of grades awarded at grades 9-7, 84% at grades 9-8 and 65% of grades awarded at grade 9.

Drama produced an outstanding set of results, with 90% of grades at 9-7. These exceptional results built on the department’s equally impressive LAMDA exam results earlier in the year, where 79% of students achieved Distinctions and 20% Merits. One student, Shivani, having received full marks in Drama opted to swap one of her A Levels subjects to take Drama instead. Alexia, a recipient of the school’s Creative Arts scholarship, spoke of her excitement about staying on at St Augustine's Priory for Sixth Form to study Drama, English Literature and Art, following her outstanding results in these subjects.

Headteacher, Mrs Christine Macallister said: 7ce194c7 dcc2 4f90 9a43 7e9d56222af9

“We are enormously proud of our pupils and all that they have achieved. These results reflect not only impressive academic attainment, but the commitment, determination and enthusiasm that pupils have shown throughout their GCSE courses.

Behind every set of grades is an individual story of hard work, progress and perseverance. It is particularly pleasing to see such strong results across the breadth of the curriculum.

Our congratulations go to every pupil receiving results today, and our thanks to the teachers, support staff and families whose encouragement and expertise have helped them reach this important milestone. We wish our pupils every success as they progress towards A Levels.”
