Preps & Pre-Preps Curriculum

At St Augustine’s Priory, our Preps and Pre-Preps curriculum goes well beyond the National Curriculum, fostering confident, curious learners ready for a rapidly changing world.

Reception is where a lifelong love of learning grows. Blending creativity, strong academic foundations and emotional wellbeing, we support each child to flourish; achieving their best without undue pressure.

As part of a through-school from Reception to Sixth Form, our pupils grow in confidence within a nurturing community, gaining the skills and mindset that prepares them not just for exams, but for a future full of possibility.

Our small class sizes ensure personalised learning that challenges each child to excel. With a dynamic team of educators at the forefront of educational practice, we continuously innovate, adapting our teaching to make sure learning is relevant, meaningful, and engaging.

Reception children benefit from specialist teaching in Music, PE (including ballet and dance), Languages, and Drama, and are encouraged to explore each subject with creativity and curiosity. From bringing science to life on our school farm, to developing understanding of sustainability, to learning through outdoor play and theme-based topics, every lesson is designed to ignite interest and deepen understanding while still being fun and age-appropriate.

Reception at St Augustine’s is more than just preparation for Year 1; it is where children become excited, capable learners within a caring, faith-led school community. It is the best possible start to school life.

From Years 1 to 6, our visionary programme balances core subjects like Maths, English, Science, and RE with specialist teaching in Art, Music, PE, and Modern Foreign Languages, including early French.

Our integrated, theme-based approach encourages creativity, critical thinking, and real-world connections building independence and resilience. With a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, 87% of our Key Stage 1 pupils exceed reading expectations, while our Prep pupils consistently outperform national benchmarks.

Children benefit from unique opportunities such as learning music instruments, performing in concerts, and engaging with our onsite school farm, where science and sustainability come to life. Our extensive grounds, including sports facilities and outdoor classrooms, support a rich extra-curricular programme with swimming, team sports, drama productions, and educational trips.

Faith and community are at the heart of our curriculum, nurturing spirituality, empathy, and leadership. Pupils develop vital life skills through active participation in school life and our Inclusion Committee, preparing them intellectually, emotionally, and socially for Senior School and beyond.
