The Berlin Marathon 2021

Posted: 8th October 2021

Mr Alejandro competes.

Mr Alejandro, Head of the Modern Foreign Languages Department, was triumphant in his visit to Berlin on Sunday 26th September when he took part in the Berlin Marathon.  Berlin and London are two of the six major world marathons along with Tokyo, Boston, Chicago and New York and Mr Alejandro says that Berlin is where the marathon world record is always broken; the record currently being held by Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya.

Mr Alejandro says, ‘My preparation included a 54 mile race along the South Downs Way.  In the last few hundred metres of the Berlin Marathon, the runners go through the iconic Brandenburg Gate.  It was hot, around 24C by the end of the race, but I had a post-race currywurst to celebrate finishing’.

Mr Alejandro had good cause to celebrate as he completed the marathon in the time of 3:16:01, the first half being completed in 1:37:15 and the second half in 1:38:46.

Congratulations to Mr Alejandro on his athletic feat, in such a great time!
