The assessment processes for admission to other year groups is as follows:

Year 1 and Year 2

Candidates are invited for a half day classroom assessment where they will be asked to complete some Maths, Reading and Writing tasks.

Year 3 to Year 6

Candidates are invited in for a full day, sitting English and Maths assessments prior to joining their cohort for lunch and two afternoon lessons.

Year 8 to Year 10

Candidates are invited to sit entrance exams in English and Maths and will be interviewed by the Headteacher.

The aim of our process is to identify potential as well as the ability to access the curriculum at the pace at which it is taught.  St Augustine’s Priory is looking for academically strong, well-rounded pupils with a genuine interest in education in the broadest sense of the word, with interests that stretch beyond the confines of the academic curriculum.  The school has strong traditions in music, drama, art, community activities and sport.  There are many extracurricular activities, all of which are important in developing a well-balanced, confident individual.

We will seek references from the candidate’s current school in all cases. All applicants and their parents meet with the Headteacher as part of our selection process.

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
