Ms Aspinall and the BBC Proms!
Ms Aspinall, our harp teacher, has been teaching at St Augustine’s Priory for over ten years. But teaching is not her only occupation. Many people will not know that Ms Aspinall is also a member of an orchestra which will be playing in the BBC Proms this summer. She is a member of the Chineke! Orchestra and will be performing in two BBC Proms concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
At 11.00am on both Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd July Chineke! are performing in the CBeebies Proms, ‘A Musical Trip to the Moon’. These concerts are very popular with children and presenters from the CBeebies television channel will be introducing the music. Ms Aspinall has a harp solo in both concerts in Brittens’ ‘The Young Person’s Guide To The Orchestra’ and she would love it if any pupil (or parent) from St Augustine’s Priory would like to go along and hear her and enjoy the wonderful work that the members of the school’s Music Department does.
The BBC Proms website says, ‘Join favourite CBeebies presenters for a family Prom designed to fire youthful imaginations and demonstrate the power of dreaming big. Young musical astronauts can follow in the footsteps of the Apollo 11 mission, experiencing new adventures along the way – including a meeting with the Clangers. The concert also features a new BBC Ten Pieces Trailblazers commission by film music’s living legend Hans Zimmer, which imagines how our Earth appears as seen from the Moon. The orchestra is Chineke! – Europe’s first majority Black and Minority Ethnic orchestra.’
Tickets go very quickly for this type of Prom and go on sale on Friday 10th May at 9.00 a.m. from:
The Chineke! Foundation was established in 2015 to provide career opportunities to young Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) classical musicians in the UK and Europe. The orchestra comprises musicians from across Europe and performs a mixture of standard orchestral repertoire together with the works of BME composers, past and present.

The BBC Proms is a wonderful Summer festival of music and this opportunity to see and hear Ms Aspinall perform professionally is one not to be missed.
