St Augustine’s Priory sponsors the Ealing Mini Mile

Posted: 23rd May 2017

There are so many benefits that come with keeping active, and with exercise proven to boost happiness and improve mental and physical health, St Augustine’s Priory is proud to sponsor the Ealing Mini Mile this year.  Last Friday 19th May Sandra Courtney, Organiser of the Ealing Half Marathon and the Ealing Mini Mile came to assembly to tell the girls about the Mini Mile and encourage them to join in.

There are many great reasons people give to run in marathons, including to keep fit, to achieve a time, to raise money, to make friends and simply because it is fun!  Courtney explained that the heart is a muscle, and that it works hard pumping blood every day of your life. She told the girls that they can help this important muscle get stronger by doing exercise, and that, simultaneously, exercise makes your body and mind healthy and fit.

The Ealing Mini Mile is on Saturday 23rd September and 1,500 children will run the one mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park.  There is already a team of fifty girls from St Augustine’s Priory running the Mini Mile, and several members of staff running the Ealing Half Marathon!  There will be prizes for winners of the different age categories and every finisher gets their finish time, a bespoke medal and a unique t-shirt.  Mrs Raffray said in assembly, “A powerful way to improve mental health is to get outside”.  Girls who wish to join can find details at http://www.ealinghalfmarathon.com/ealing-mini-mile/ or talk to Mrs Savic.
