Lower IV and cyber security

A visit to IBM.

On 11th October Lower IV took part in an inspiring visit to IBM at their CyberDay4for Girls.  Mr Dellow, Head of Computing, reports on the visit:

‘Just before half term, our Lower IV pupils were lucky enough to be invited to IBM to take part in a cyber security day.  We were greeted upon arrival in the rather impressive reception area then taken into the exclusive and futuristic client centre. Our day started with a simply brilliant key note speech from Katerini Tasiopoulou who works as part of IBM’s  X-Force. Katerini spoke to us about ethical hacking and the pathways into the industry. She even shared with us her secrets about how she ‘hacked’ one of our students!

The students were then treated to a carousel of cyber security based activities. Later on in the day head Chief Information Security Officer for TSB (Sue Humphreys) spoke to the girls about careers in cyber security and took a number of inquisitive questions from our students.’

As one pupil commented: “The trip today was fantastic! I loved it. So much so I have decided that I would like to learn more about the profession of being a hacker/tester for a company such as IBM”
