Upper II and Senior Choir celebrate chorally!

Performing at the o2 Arena.

Monday 25th April saw most of Upper II and the Senior Choir journey to the O2 Arena in Greenwich where, together with thousands of other school pupils, they performed a variety of music.  This astonishing event was organised by Young Voices, a musical charity which encourages schoolchildren to get together and sing in a massed choir once a year.  This was their 25th anniversary event and the first one in which St Augustine’s Priory had participated.  Altogether, there were 8,220 students in the choir!

The children joined together in a day of rehearsals singing a Beatles medley, songs from the Muppets, the Lion King, and ‘O Fortuna’ from Carmina Burana, along with a host of other songs, both popular and specially commissioned for this event.  There was even beat boxing!

At 7.00pm the doors were opened and thousands of guests poured in.  Dr Higgins, Director of Music, comments: ‘This was a wondrous event and the sheer impact of the volume of over 8,000 people singing was extraordinary!’

The audience were very enthusiastic and thoroughly engaged with the choir, even joining in with some of the singing and dancing.  This was an amazing event and we can’t wait to take part next year!
