Off to a good start.
Charities Week had a tremendous start last Friday when girls in Lower II and Upper II who are members of The Eyes of the World Club held a bake sale in aid of Refugee Action. Miss Cooke takes up the story:
‘The Eyes of the World club is the co-curricular club that I lead for girls in Lower II and Upper II. As part of this, we have been focusing on a different charity/cause each term. During the Michaelmas Term, we focused on supporting CAFOD and, in the Lent Term, we have focused on ways in which we can support refugees – we asked for girls to donate coats for The Salvation Army at the end of Lent 1, and on Friday, had a bread and bake sale (to tie into the ‘Building the Kingdom Day’ which had a focus on ‘bread’) where the money raised went towards Refugee Action.
St Augustine’s Priory’s mission is to put our faith into action. The bake sale was a joyous occasion for both the Prep and Junior girls, who revelled in eating such delectable treats and knowing that their donations were helping to support a greater cause.
We are delighted to report that we raised over £200 for Refugee Action, which will help the charity offer refugees the basic support they need to build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK and to live again with dignity.’
Congratulations to Miss Cooke and all the bakers in Lower II and Upper II for such outstanding work.
