Some excellent books.

Our Librarian, Mrs Bhatti, has some great suggestions for a summer of reading and a recap of some of the things we are doing in the library!

‘Prep I are becoming very excited about books and have received their very own copy of the hilarious picture book ‘The Runaway Pea’ written by Kjartan Poskitt and illustrated by Alex Willmore.

In the Juniors our aim is to enrich the curriculum and increase our bank of resources. To achieve this we have curated Project Book Boxes that contain non-fiction books relating to the topics taught in class. Each box contains 20 – 25 books of the same topic, below is an example of some of the books purchased:

  • The Romans
  • The Anglo Saxons
  • Climate around the World
  • People, Geography & the Environment
  • Inheritance, Evolution & Adaptation
  • Light & Sound
  • Forces
  • Beliefs & Cultures
  • Supporting Health & Well-being

In the Seniors and Priory Sixth, we are committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are pleased to introduce a new reading service providing digital books through Sora, the student reading app.

Why Sora?
The collection of titles in Sora is an extension of St Augustine’s Priory physical library, only it is in an app with 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks. It is convenient for students to borrow titles during school and at home, the digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period!

Sora can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension.  Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners and gifted readers can all benefit from Sora,

Such as:

  • Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation
  • Introduce students to books above their reading level
  • Teach critical listening
  • Help busy kids find time to read
  • Incentivize reading with fun avatars and achievements
  • Allow easy access to Ealing Library collection, too! (in the Sora menu select: +Add a public library)

Whether a student’s interest lies in classics for required reading, or the latest popular juvenile or young adult fiction, they can find it all in Sora!

Library inductions are in progress to introduce this new digital reading experience!

Here is some information about Overdrive, our online eBooks & Audiobooks reading platform accessed through the Sora app.

With Sora, you can get free ebooks and audiobooks from your school.

Install the Sora app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, or go to soraapp.com.

In Sora, find your school (or enter your school’s setup code), then sign in.

Close the book and go to your Shelf to see all your books (including assignments). From there, you can:
Browse the Explore tab and borrow a book. Your book will open so you can start reading right away.

  • Tap Open Book or Open Audiobook to read or listen to the book.
  • Tap Options to renew or return the book, get to your notes and highlights, and more.

‘Let’s continue our love for reading during the Summer holidays with our new innovative approach of using eBooks and Audiobooks that can be read or listened: anytime, anywhere, any computer and mobile device.

‘Make sure you download the eBooks and Audiobooks if you are travelling, just in case you cannot find a Wi-Fi connection.’

‘Enjoy the Summer Holidays with some Happy Reading!’’
