Mass in the last week of term
As we near the end of term and the end of Lent, the last Mass of the term was this week celebrated by Fr Thomas and prepared by Lower VA. Although it was the day before the feast of the Annunciation, that feast’s readings were used. We heard the familiar Gospel reading from St Luke about the visit of the angel Gabriel to Mary with the news that she had been chosen by God to bear His Son and the momentous decision she made to consent to this.
Lower V composed some beautiful Prayers of the Faithful to mark the occasion. As we this week marked the anniversary of the imposition of lockdown and the National Day of Reflection to remember all those who have died in the past year with a minute’s silence and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, we here reproduce the prayers composed and delivered by Lower V which resonate with the experiences we have all gone through and witnessed:
We pray for the Church and all of her leaders who continue to provide comfort to us during this time. May they continue to shine their love on each one of us and help us to find a deeper understanding and a greater truth.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We pray for the leaders of the nations, may Jesus’ concern for the hungry find a response in their hearts, so that no one in our world dies of hunger, or is forced to live in subhuman conditions. Help people to be brave and stand up for what is right in countries where sometimes bad things happen to good people
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We pray for all of our teachers and their safety during this time, may they have the resilience during this ever-changing situation to continue to keep us safe and continue teaching every lesson with a smile.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We pray that our school can continue its contribution to help keep a healthy, happy community. Help everyone in our community support our local shops and restaurants and the jobs they bring when they open their doors.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We pray for our families. Our families are very important in our lives; they influence us to make the best choices we can. We thank you for their love and helping us through tough times and for things that we might not understand and for those families who have members who have passed, may they find peace and be content in Heaven.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
In times of personal need, we pray for all of those who are sick, suffering, lonely or feeling hopeless right now. May your light shine upon them and grant them the heavenly power of your healing.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
We ask our Mother Mary to intercede for us as we say:
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen
