Red Wednesday 2020

Posted: 27th November 2020

A day to remember.

Aid to the Church in Need is a Pontifical Foundation of the Catholic Church, supporting the church wherever they are needed and each November their initiative, Red Wednesday – held on a Wednesday in late November, raises awareness of those persecuted for their faith around the world.

Their website says, ‘Over the last five years our #RedWednesday campaign has been hugely successful in drawing attention to the human rights tragedy of Christian and other religious persecution. Now a global initiative, endorsed by the UK government, it is time to make #RedWednesday a campaign with teeth that can really change lives.’

At St Augustine’s Priory, we marked Red Wednesday 2020 in several ways.  The doors to classrooms were bedecked in red, girls and staff wore an item of red clothing or a red accessory and we held two Masses, one for the Juniors, attended by Upper I and live-streamed to the other Junior classes, and one for the Seniors, organised by Lower V, with other Senior classes holding liturgies in their classrooms.

The day was a feast of commemoration making Red Wednesday a day to remember.
