The UK Space Design Competition

Posted: 31st January 2020

Through to the next stage.

The UK Space Design Competition is an annual science and engineering competition designed as a simulation of life in industry. Open to students in Years 10 to 13, the UKSDC aims to enable students to experience the vast potential and valuable opportunities available through future study, or even a career, in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

Marie Corsini, one of our past pupils who recently graduated in Aeronautical Engineering, spent some time with us prior to moving on to a new career in Hong Kong.  She volunteered with us helping girls explore cutting edge technology and to support some of our cross-curricular projects.

Last term she worked with three Priory 6 girls, at pace (one week where other schools took a year) to work to an extremely demanding brief producing a video which showed how they would design a transport system on Mercury.

There was a massive amount of work (research, calculation etc) which had to be done to fulfil the brief and it all had to be contained within three minutes.

The deadline was the end of the Michaelmas term.  Our team consisted of three sixth formers: Naomi Jeffries, Angela Shan and Kat Dorn who each brought different skills to the project and completed their work in a week!

There was great excitement when this announcement went up on the UKSDC website last week:

So our team joins with the regional winners to take part in the National Final at Imperial College on 14/15th March at Imperial College.
