Meeting Members of Staff…

Posted: 13th September 2019

Mr S Matheson.

This term we welcome Mr Matheson, who joins our Science Department as Head of Chemistry and will be teaching this subject in the Seniors up to and including A Level.  Originally from Australia, Mr Matheson obtained his B.Sc. with Honours from the University of Queensland and also achieved a B.Ed.

Before teaching, Mr Matheson enjoyed a time making yachts and adhesives but then turned to education and taught in Brisbane Grammar School for Boys.  It was while teaching in Malaysia that he gained his M.Ed.

Since January this year Mr Matheson and his family have been in England and he joins us not only as a teacher, but also as an Augustinian parent!

He says, ‘I am looking forward to the opportunity to extend the studies of the pupils here  – they are well-trained in the love of learning’.

We know that Mr Matheson will enjoy teaching  – and his children will enjoy learning – at St Augustine’s Priory.

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
