The Fourth Industrial Revolution.
On Tuesday 26th March we will be holding our biennial Careers Evening for Seniors. We will have speakers from a wide range of careers on hand to speak to girls about their careers and who will be able to offer advice on how to access these professions. From architecture through to space and telecommunications via medicine, finance and accounting, journalism, law, acting, teaching and many others, a whole host of fascinating experts will be on hand to listen to our girls and to advise.
The theme of this Careers Evening is the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We live in a time of change and evolution. As the World Economic Forum on its website explains: ‘The First Industrial Revolution used water and steam power to mechanize production. The Second used electric power to create mass production. The Third used electronics and information technology to automate production. Now a Fourth Industrial Revolution is building on the Third, the digital revolution that has been occurring since the middle of the last century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres… When compared with previous industrial revolutions, the Fourth is evolving at an exponential rather than a linear pace. Moreover, it is disrupting almost every industry in every country. And the breadth and depth of these changes herald the transformation of entire systems of production, management, and governance.’
At St Augustine’s Priory we believe that our pupils must be ready to embrace the future, to show adaptability and flexibility in their approach to careers. Our Careers Evening is just one strand of preparing them for the worlds of higher education and work, to enable them to embrace the world of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
