New Music Room

Posted: 6th November 2018

Space to compose.

There was much excitement just before Half Term when our new Music Room was unveiled.  Work had taken place over the Summer holidays and two ribbon-cutting ceremonies saw the official opening – one for the Seniors and one for the Juniors.

Juniors:  cutting the ribbon!

Describing the facilities available in the new Music Room:  Mr Powell, Bursar, makes a speech.

Dr Higgins, Director of Music, commented: ‘It is wonderful to have a designated room which incorporates our Mac Suite with Casio keyboards and our brand new Kawai piano. It is exciting to work in a room which will cater for composing, history and keyboard work which will enable the girls to learn music literacy, for example notation’.

Senior ribbon cutting!

The new Music Room allows for the recording of the girls’ digital compositions and, with the original Music Room now cleared of all computers, large scale practical work is being carried out there, including our music ensembles, Samba drumming and djembe (African drumming) – already the sounds of choral rehearsals have been heard from our upcoming 2019 production, ‘Chicago’!

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
