Lower II explore outer space

Posted: 12th October 2018

Visit of Sirius Astronomy.

Lower II showed enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn when Paul Hill from Sirius Astronomy visited to run workshops full of astronomical delights on Tuesday 9th October.

The two workshops dealt with space travel and the solar system.  The history of the human interaction with space flight, starting with Sputnik, was explored and the effect of the physics of pressure and the examination of the engineering and design of space suits was probed.  The gamut of space travel was investigated!

Following on from this was the workshop on the solar system.  Meteorites, asteroids and even the making of a comet were scrutinized and the members of Lower II were fascinated throughout the morning.

First, take your ingredients, then mix well…

And before you it, you have made a comet!

Mrs Round, Junior Science Lead, commented, ‘This was an informative and awesome workshop which truly inspired our girls’.

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
