The Ealing Mini Mile and Half Marathon

Posted: 5th October 2018

A weekend for the family.

Last weekend saw a festival of athletics in Ealing.  On Saturday 29th September the Ealing Mini Mile took place, of which we were proud to be sponsors.  On Sunday 30th September the Ealing Half Marathon took place and several of our teachers took part, achieving excellent results.

The weather was glorious on Saturday and Lammas Park was filled with families enjoying the event.  We were well represented in all the age categories with seventy girls competing.  There was even an Augustinian family running in the Family Race category and Nicole in Prep II must be congratulated for coming in as first girl in this race!

Lammas Park on 29th September                                       Our stall                                                                       Mrs Savic and Mr Powell

Mia Vivenot, our Sports Scholar came in as first girl in the aged 10 – 11 category and she was not the only Augustinian to achieve great results.  Anishka Gupta was a triumphant second girl in the age 6 – 7 category, Atrin Nasr was sixth girl in the 9 year old category and Ana Navarro-Suarez was fourth girl in the 12 – 16 age category with Mia Simpson coming in eighth.

Next day saw the Half Marathon and Mr Alejandro, Mrs Macallister, Ms Burrell and Mrs Ferrari all ran, achieving excellent results.

Mrs Macallister and Ms Burrell ran in amazing times.  Mrs Macallister ran the Half Marathon in an incredible  in 1 hour and 52 minutes with Ms Burrell running it a wonderful 1 hour 51 minutes.  She comments, ‘I then decided to carry on for seven more miles, running around and around Walpole Park so that I could get my miles up for a hopeful future marathon. It was a nice Sunday run.’

Mr Alejandro  was another one who just gets better and better, running the Half Marathon in 1 hour 26 minutes.  He says, ‘I achieved a personal best at the Harrow Half two weeks before the Ealing Half Marathon (1:32:55) and therefore thought I might as well go out fast (for me) without any pressure and just see what happened. I stuck with the sub 1:30 pacers for the first couple of miles until the Park View Road climb and thought I better get ahead to give myself some contingency. Luckily the conditions were amazing as well as the support and I went quicker than I ever could have imagined!’

For Mrs Ferrari, our peripatetic singing teacher, this was an event to remember.  She says, ‘This  was my first half marathon and I absolutely loved it! I ran the whole thing with a friend. It was also her first half marathon and we had barely run 5K before June, training with Ealing Eagles as absolute beginners. I am really thrilled that we did it in under 3 hours – 2 hours 55 minutes to be exact and I intend to do it again next year. I am a woman in my fifties so just goes to show that it’s never too late to start doing exercise….!’

Congratulations to all the St Augustine’s Priory athletes and all who supported them over last weekend, a true celebration of determination, commitment – and fun.
