Girls are motivated by 100% scores in Accelerated Reader quizzes

Form III girls Naomi Nnatu, Katherine O’Neill and Mattie Green all scored 100% in the Accelerated Reader quizzes they took recently. Funded by our wonderful Parents’ Committee, the Accelerated Reader quizzes not only give pupils immediate online feedback on their reading but build reports that can be viewed by our teachers. These reports reveal how much a student has been reading and at what level, as well as measuring vocabulary growth and literary skills.

The girls were presented their certificates in assembly on Monday; Mattie for Roald Dahl’s The Giraffe the Pelly and Me, Katherine O’Neill for three of the Percy Jackson & The Olympians pentalogy by Rick Riordan and for The Twins at St Clare’s by Enid Blyton, and Naomi Nnatu for Malala Yousafzai’s I am Malala.

Well done to all our girls taking the Accelerated Reader quizzes! Below, we have Naomi’s book review of I am Malala:

“Title:  I am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World

Author:  Malala Yousafzai

This autobiography is an amazing read. It is written from Malala’s point of view and is thrilling, exciting and terrifying all at the same time. For those of you who don’t know her, as a teenager Malala fought for girls’ education in Pakistan and all over the world. The Taliban had taken over her country and had stopped girls going to school and so she wanted to make a change! She risked her life… It is set in Pakistan and England. It tells us about what her life was like in Pakistan and how she is finding life in England. If you are worried about goriness, the book is not very gruesome but does include images of the Taliban and Malala in hospital! Despite that, it is a brilliant read and I couldn’t get enough of it!”
