St Augustine’s Priory girls race to victory!
An amazing afternoon of racing took place on Saturday 23rd September when the Ealing Mini Mile took place in Lammas Park, Ealing; an event which enjoyed ideal weather, a great atmosphere and a record 1,600 children competing in the five age-specific races. The Ealing Mini Mile was making its debut as a stand-alone event in this its fourth year, held on the day prior to the Ealing Half Marathon which was on Sunday 24th September.
As a close knit community, St Augustine’s Priory was delighted to sponsor this great Ealing community event and thrilled that over 60 St Augustine’s Priory pupils entered.
Ealing parents gathered to cheer on all the participants and boys and girls from the borough’s schools joined in running their hearts out.
St Augustine’s Priory pupils had trained well for the event with our Junior Running Club members training with the Senior School Running Club in preparation for the Mini Mile.
They achieved great results in the girls’ races: among them Olivia Sparks who came first in the 10 – 11 years age group and Mia Simpson, Elizabeth Higham and Olivia Agrotis who achieved 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively in the 12 – 16 years age group.
In the younger age groups Anishka Gupta came 9th in the 6 – 7 year olds age category; Atrin Nasar came 3rd in the 8 year old age group and Eve Ward and Ivy Lo came 5th and 6th respectively in the 9 year old category.
These were spectacular results and, as Mrs Heather Gosling, Director of Sport at St Augustine’s Priory, commented, ‘These are brilliant results and demonstrate the emphasis we place on the overall fitness of the girls. We are so proud of the girls’ achievements’.
Miss Louise Hales, PE teacher at St Augustine’s Priory, who gave out prizes on the day said, ‘Days like these are why we do what we do’.
