Mrs Mary King

We welcome Mrs Mary King (not to be confused with Ms Mari King) who joins St Augustine’s Priory in the English Department this term where she will be part of an excellent team of teachers.  Here, Mrs King introduces herself:

‘I am delighted to be joining the English Department at St Augustine’s Priory and I look forward to getting to know the girls and staff.

My teaching career began many years ago in the 1980s when I completed a BA Hons in English at St Mary’s College in Twickenham, followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Roehampton Institute. A great deal has happened in education since then and I feel   fortunate to find myself doing a job that has provided me with new challenges and brought  me so much personal fulfilment.

A few years after qualifying, I moved to St Mark’s School in Hounslow as Second in Department and as acting Head of Department during maternity covers. Four children arrived in quick succession in the 1990s and I took a long career break to look after them.   My interest in education took a new turn as I experienced school from a parent’s point of view.

I was asked to return to St Mark’s English Department and, when the time was right, I returned for nine years as a part- time teacher. My three older children are now all at university and it is a very good time to take on the exciting new challenge of a teaching post at St Augustine’s Priory.

In my first few days here I have been impressed by the lively, inquisitive and courteous demeanour of the girls. It is clear that the Catholic ethos of St Augustine’s Priory is reflected in the different aspects of school life and this is very important to me.  Each member of our school community is unique and valued and, from my first visit, I have been made to feel welcome by staff and girls alike. I am really looking forward to becoming fully involved in the life of the school.’
