Welcoming alumnae back to St Augustine’s Priory

Posted: 14th March 2017

On Saturday 11th March we hosted a lunch for past pupils of St Augustine’s Priory; it was attended by alumnae of all ages, some who left as recently as last year and others whose own girls now attend the school, together with some past teachers, including Mrs Winslett, Mrs Haley, Mrs Majcherczyk and Mr Costello.  We asked the alumnae to share their favourite memories of the school with us, and below are some of the responses we received:

“Reverend Mother’s Feast Day – going home at lunchtime to change into your own clothes and going into the hall with the big blackout curtains up to watch a film with a small white paper bag of sweets!  Such a treat!!!”, Caroline Stacpoole leaver 1981

“The non-stop laughter and friends I have had since 1992, the Talent Contest and all the Hymns we sang each morning – I will remember the words forever”, Caroline Bradley leaver 2006

“Meeting my best friends – Caroline, Hayley and Lizzie, History lessons with Mr Clayton and Miss Trybuchowska, Geography with Mr Laing, the Sixth Form common room and the Talent Contest”, Felicity Bingham leaver 2006

“Irish dancing winning the Talent Show every year!  The shopping trolley in Prep II, the outdoor swimming pool at Barclays, Tableaux, the Fathers race on sports day and own clothes day”, Beatriz Plaza leaver 1987

“Tableaux, Reverend Mother’s Feast Day, winning Middlesex U15 hockey and going to Belgium, playing endlessly in the field, the friendships and the happy school environment”, Angela Gorard leaver 1979

“Making lifelong friends, saying the Our Father in Latin at the start of every Latin lesson with Mrs Thermostocleus”, Sylvia Lazarides leaver 1995

“Having Reverend Mother as a Headteacher, waiting in the cloisters with my sisters and Mother Mary Agnes for my mum to collect us, receiving a rose from Mother Mary Ursula on Name Day”, Urszula O’Sullivan leaver 1995

“So many memories!  Being ever so slightly naughty, having a lot of laughs and making friends for life!”, Fenella Samways leaver 1991

“The day the BBC came to film mass during the Gulf War And a squirrel got stuck to a window”, Tamara Walker-Moore leaver 1993

“The nuns were really quite unique characters… Mother Mary Agnes, Mother Mary Ursula, Mother Mary Emmanuel, Mother Mary Raphael and of course Reverend Mother!  Sitting at the back of the classroom with my best friend and causing mischief!  Sorry!”, Hala Melcon leaver 1993

“We had a ball in this place.  I have the most wonderful memories of being at school here and wouldn’t swap them for the world”, Elisa Woodcock leaver 1993
