Mathematics Masterclasses

Mrs Bennet, Head of Mathematics, writes about one of the opportunities available for the young mathematicians in Upper IV.

‘Each year, we are lucky enough to be invited by the Royal Institution to nominate pupils in Upper IV to participate in a series of Saturday morning masterclasses in Mathematics. This year we have been particularly fortunate to have gained the maximum five places available for each school.

The masterclasses give young pupils a chance to engage with the wider mathematical landscape, working with enthusiastic expert presenters to explore the applications of Mathematics.

Speakers at the masterclasses are chosen for their ability to share their insight and enthusiasm as well as their subject knowledge. Each speaker develops a class based on their own area of interest within Maths.

So, on 12th November, our five pupils, Rin Aota, Naomi Jeffries, Katie Fung, Lizzie Higham and Eleanor Kaffo will attend their first session at the Royal Institution and we look forward to hearing from them about their experiences’.

The Royal Institution’s website states that the masterclasses ‘aim to open the eyes of young people to the excitement, beauty and value of mathematics, engineering and computer science and in turn, inspire the next generation’; this is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to explore and enjoy Maths further.

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
