A Level Results Day
Thursday 18th August was a happy day at St Augustine’s Priory as the Upper VI came to collect their A Level results. These were exceptional as we enjoyed a record year for A Level results. Teachers and parents were on hand to celebrate with the Upper VI as they prepare for the next stage of their lives – university.
37% of A Level grades were A* or A and nearly 20% of all A Level candidates achieved at least 2 A*s, with 60% of all candidates achieving grades A* – B. 71% of the total grades achieved in A Levels were A* to B.
Ridhi Thukral and Jasleen Deu between them achieved 7 straight A*s. Ridhi Thukral, Jasleen Deu, Jessica Francois-Davis, Katarina Krneta, Alexia Kirov, Aoife-Jane Moss, Shivali Sharma and Ririko Yoshie, who between them achieved 15 A*s and 8 A grades, also scored full marks in a total of eighteen A Level papers across English, History, Government and Politics, Economics, Mathematics, Russian and Creative Writing.
These, and all the girls’ results, are phenomenal achievements of which the school is very proud. Ririko Yoshie, who arrived at St Augustine’s Priory in 2014, is an outstanding student who is an example of how relentless hard work and determination can achieve amazing results. She arrived at the school from Japan, determined to study Maths and Physics but with very limited English. She mastered English in two years and leaves the school with A*s in Maths and Japanese, grade A in Further Maths, A in Physics and a B in Economics – as well as with prodigious musical accomplishments.
This is testament to the school’s practice of outstanding teaching and individual support delivered in small all-girls Sixth Form classes, as well as its culture of challenge and hard work.
Headteacher, Mrs Sarah Raffray, commented, “These are phenomenal achievements and I am very proud of all our girls and of our staff. Our exceptional A Level results are a testament to the hard work of our students and the outstanding teaching of our talented staff.”
In a wide range of subjects including Further Maths, Economics, History, Art, French, Drama, Creative Writing, Music and Russian candidates scored only A* – B grades . Among other notable results, in Chemistry, Biology and Physics 66% of grades were A* – B, 60% of Economics candidates scored A* or A and 62% of History candidates accomplished A* or A and 66% of Creative Writing candidates scored A* or A.
In addition to the above successes, 100% of grades achieved in the EPQ (the Extended Project Qualification) were A* or A.
Ambitious degree courses at world class universities characterise this year group with girls studying History as well as English at UCL, PPE at LSE, Russian at Edinburgh, Politics and also English at Bristol, Music at the Royal Academy and Mechanical Engineering at Liverpool.
We commence the programme of further exciting enhancements to our Sixth Form (called Priory 6 going forward) in September 2016. With a new Sixth Form centre, multimedia suite, study areas as well as an extensive co-curricular programme and high expectations of its students, St Augustine’s Priory is the ideal place for Sixth Formers to not only have the opportunity to become independent and courageous young women, but to enjoy an education which stretches them to achieve their potential.
Congratulations to all our Upper VI on their achievements and we wish them well as they embark on the next stage of their careers.
