Prep II and Laudato Si’

Correspondence with Pope Francis

Last year Pope Francis wrote to the world with his encyclical “LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” – “Praise be to you, my Lord”, urging us to care for our home, the planet Earth, and all that it contained.

After we celebrated Laudato Si’ week last week with several initiatives designed to help us conserve energy and resources and make the most of our environment, Prep II decided to write back to the Pope with their messages.

Here are a selection of the letters sent:

Firstly , Bani writes, ‘Dear Pope Francis, at school we had Laudato Si’ Week.  We had no paper day.  Also, I will look after the world by turning the tap off and turning off lights.  I will say a big thank you to God for our lovely world.  God has done so much for us we should do something for Him.  We could look after the world.’

Sophie writes, ‘At school we had Laudato Si’ Week.  We had no electricity and a nature day.  We could not use paper that day.  On Thursday we went to Odds Farm to get fresh air.  We fed the hungry animals.  We picked up the dirty rubbish.  We all wrote a promise about keeping our common home tidy’.

Esha followed this with, ‘Dear Pope Francis, at school we had Laudato Si’ Week.  We had no paper day.  We made a big heart of all our promises to look after God’s world.  We had no electricity day.  We picked up rubbish and we put it in the bin.’

Finally, Nicki wrote, ‘Dear Pope Francis, at school we had Laudato Si’ Week and we wrote a promise and my promise was not to waste paper when I am drawing and we had no paper day and we picked up rubbish.  On Thursday we went to Odds Farm and I cared for my lovely world. At Odds Farm we fed the animals.  Love from Nicola’.

Thank you to Prep II for your wonderful letters and your promises – you are inspiring!

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
