Miss F Verne, Teacher of Chemistry

Miss Frances Verne, who joins us in September as a teacher of Chemistry writes to tell us of her background in both theology and science:

‘I grew up in Ealing and am looking forward to returning home to teach at St Augustine’s Priory.  I have a BSc in Chemistry from Queen Elizabeth College, London and an MA in Pastoral Theology from the Cambridge Theological Federation.  I am presently Head of RE at Blanchelande College in Guernsey; but before that was Head of Science at Sacred Heart School in Norfolk where I lived in the holy village of Walsingham.  I have a book published under a pen name, called ‘Here am I: responding to God’s call.’

Pope Benedict wrote about the friendship between science and religion and I have loved teaching both.   In Guernsey I have taken up Scottish country dancing and enjoyed walking along the unspoilt coast and cliffs with my springer spaniel Abbie.  I look forward to meeting and working with the school community at St Augustine’s Priory.’

We look forward to meeting Miss Verne and welcoming her to St Augustine’s Priory.

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
