Miss Keep, Geography Department, tells us about ‘Wacky Walking Wednesday’ which took place in Walk to School Week and was great success!

‘Last Wednesday (18th May) St Augustine’s Priory took part in ‘Wacky Walking Wednesday’. We encouraged all students to walk to school as a part of the national Walk to School week, but asked that on this day they undertook their journey wearing the wackiest shoes possible!

The Juniors took their wacky shoes to an extreme and their effort was outstanding! We had shoes with faces, odd shoes (Lower I), recyclable and sustainable shoes (Upper II)- even Garden inspired shoes! There were winners awarded in each and every class in the Juniors – and the whole of Upper II won a year award for full commitment shown! Form III Alpha also took the wackiness by storm and wore shoes with lights, shoes with eyes and even shoes made out of sweets!

Teachers joined in the fun wearing slippers, odd high heels (Mrs O Brien) and even shoes made out of plastic bags (Mrs Round)! All in all it was a fantastic day.

I would like to thank every student, parent and teacher for taking part to raise awareness of the importance of walking to school. If you would like to see more of the photographs please follow the school’s sustainable twitter account @staugworld.’
