Mr M Dellow, Head of Computer Studies
Mr Michael Dellow will be joining St Augustine’s Priory as Head of Computer Studies in September. He has sent us this article introducing himself and telling us about his enthusiasm for Computer Studies.
‘I visited St. Augustine’s Priory in December whilst most of you had begun your Christmas holidays. I really enjoyed being shown around the school and ever since I have been very excited about meeting the students and staff and working in the Computer Studies Department.
I was born in North East London and attended school in Redbridge. I studied Multimedia Technology at Hertfordshire University and toward the end of my degree I started to visit secondary schools and realised that I wanted to become a teacher. I completed my ICT PGCE at Greenwich University and could not wait to get started with classes of my own.
After being educated in Redbridge I then decided to teach there also. I remained at my first post for almost ten years before leaving the UK to teach at Harrow in Bangkok, Thailand. Here, along with my wife and our two year son, we have enjoyed some incredible experiences. However, when I saw the opportunity to be a part of St Augustine’s Priory I was certain it was the school where I wanted to teach.
I truly believe that Computing is a subject that is challenging, enjoyable and inspiring. Problem solving is one of the fundamental skills that the subject promotes, a skill useful across the curriculum and all areas of life. The number of young females studying the subject and undertaking careers in computing is increasing and this is something that I think we should all be extremely excited about.
I love to travel and, as well as learning languages such as Python and JavaScript, I enjoy speaking Spanish and, after sitting a GCSE Spanish paper along with a number of year 11 students, I was over the moon to gain a very pleasing grade. My love of travel has taken me to many places and most recently to one of my favourite places, Japan. I also like to keep active and I enjoy playing football, running and cycling. One of my proudest moments was completing the London marathon, something I am keen to repeat next year.
I look forward to meeting you all soon.’
We look forward to meeting Mr Dellow and welcoming him to St Augustine’s Priory in September.
