EPQ: A preparation for life.

Posted: 8th March 2019

‘We learn. We reflect. We achieve.’

Here at St Augustine’s Priory we provide girls with the intellectual challenges and space to allow them to continue their education with an advantage that many other schools do not provide.  The EPQ, the Extended Project Qualification, supports learners with the transition to higher education or into the world of work.  Students are given the opportunity to develop critical, reflective, problem-solving and independent learning skills through the planning, research and evaluation of a self-selected project.  Throughout their in-depth study, pupils develop and apply skills creatively.  We provide mentoring and support throughout the process and the resulting projects are a joy to experience.

In this, the first of articles on this year’s EPQs, we would like to quote a parent whose Augustinian daughter is now at university and enjoyed working on her EPQ while at school here:

‘My daughter rang me in her first term of university and said ‘Mum, you are not going to believe this, I need to write a report similar to the EPQ that I’ve done and I feel I have much more of an advantage than some of my fellow students because they haven’t done this before.’ She found it to be a much easier experience in terms of academic writing and analysis. Overall, it was a much more enjoyable experience for her and she felt that she could really use those skills in writing the report for the university.’

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
