Year 8 Poetry Success

A huge congratulations to our talented Year 8 students for their outstanding achievements in the Chiswick Book Festival Young Poets Competition on 12th September!

Zahra took First Prize with her powerful poem “Break (2)”, while Muyan (“Night”) and Laila (“Broken Will”) were named Runners-up.

All three girls attended the prize-giving ceremony, where they had the wonderful opportunity to share their work and celebrate alongside other young writers. Their creativity, confidence, and passion for poetry truly shone throughout the event.

The English Department and the entire school community are extremely proud of their achievements and the way they represented the school with such talent and enthusiasm.

The girls are pictured with Mr Elder, Head of English, and Mrs Macallister, Headteacher.

The English Department is especially proud to continue its long tradition of championing poetry. This term, we are once again running a series of inspiring workshops led by poet and editor Lisa Kelly, currently a judge for the prestigious Forward Prize.

Through this scheme, invited students from Year 9 upwards will collaborate to craft their own poems, sharpen their critical awareness, and deepen their understanding of the creative process. These workshops take learning beyond the classroom — broadening horizons, building confidence, and nurturing the incredible talent within our school community.
