The Rose Garden

Posted: 24th June 2020

‘When life throws thorns, hunt for roses.’  Anonymous.

The rose garden is in full bloom at St Augustine’s Priory and these glorious flowers are a source of great cheer.  From red to orange to pink to white our roses are a welcome sight for sore eyes. The beds contain a variety of beautiful blooms, including Dawn Chorus, Korresia, Glad Tidings, English Miss, Margaret Merrill and, very fitting for these times, Fellowship and Freedom.

Although in these strange ‘new normal’ times so many of our community are not here to enjoy the sight, we thought that we would share some pictures of our roses so that you can glimpse some of this year’s wonderful blooms.  We hope that before too long every one of us will be able to enjoy this beautiful sight at first hand.

As Bette Midler says in her song, ‘The Rose’:

‘When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose.’
