Sports Days…

Seniors and Nursery triumph.

Senior Sports Day began the week in sunshine and a medley of record breakers and personal bests.  The Nursery pupils in their sports day on Tuesday were not so concerned with breaking school records or achieving personal but they had a wonderful time!

Ms Hales reports that ten school records were broken and over 100 girls achieved a personal best score on the senior day and it was the closest ever sports day with only forty-two points separating first and fourth places.

Mrs Gosling, Director of Sport, adds: ‘For the first time in four years, we had sunshine on Senior Sports Day. This brought out the best in our girls with so many personal best performances and we were delighted to see so many amazing races.  Highlights of the day included Chantelle Boyle from Form III beating the 800m record by an astonishing 15 seconds – she now holds the fastest time in the school!

Amelia Phillips continues to hold the javelin record in all four years that she has competed in the seniors and Olivia Sparks broke both the 200m record and the high jump record. Poppy Hill undertook some fantastic chasing down in the relay to take gold in that race for St Michael.

Senior Sports Day was a fantastic event which was closely fought throughout the day, and saw St George’s take the House Cup which was a popular result from the commentator for the day, Banu Ali – who had been supporting all girls, but with a slight bias to her beloved house!

It was also great to award the awards of Victor Ludorum (most outstanding athlete of the day) to Poppy Hill and our Spirit of the House Awards to Eva Barroso Jones, (St Gabriel), Amelia Phillips, (St Raphael), Jasmine Cabraal, (St George), and Eleanor Minasian, (St Michael). We look forward to next week to see what the Juniors and Preps do on Wednesday 21st June.’

In the Nursery Sports Day there were some great feats of athletic prowess with all the Nursery pupils running a complete lap as their final race!  Everyone was awarded a well-deserved medal for their efforts on the day and the PE and Nursery staff were ably supported by the GCSE PE students who were of enormous assistance.
