Upper IV studies the lungs

Mrs Harley has been guiding Upper IV through some hands-on work in Biology.  Upper IVA and Upper IV Alpha have been studying the structure of the lungs and gaseous exchange in the lungs.

2

Gas exchange is the delivery of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream, and the elimination of carbon dioxide from the bloodstream to the lungs. It occurs in the lungs between the alveoli and a network of tiny blood vessels called capillaries, which are located in the walls of the alveoli.

3

In order to complement their studies in this area and deepen their understanding of the topics involved, Upper IV undertook a sheep’s lung dissection on Friday 20th March where the pupils identified the structures of the lungs as well as comparing the tissue of the heart and lungs.
