Reporting on the National Gallery

During the last half of last term Prep III learnt how to be newshounds in their English lessons.  During their visit to the National Gallery on 3rd December they used these skills to analyse and report on the paintings of the Nativity they saw and studied as part of their Religious Education curriculum.

Here, Claudia Bileckyj, reports on their visit:

‘On Thursday 3rd December Prep III went to the National Gallery, We went there because we were looking at the Christmas Story in Religious Education.  We went by coach and it took a long time to get to Central London. We met our guide, Jocelyn, and then up to the gallery and looked at a painting called ‘St Joseph’s Dream’.

We than looked at a painting called the ‘Adoration of the Kings’ and also a painting called the ‘Adoration of the Shepherds’.  After this we had our sandwiches. which were yummy!  After lunch we returned to the gallery and looked at a painting called ‘Sunflowers’ by Vincent van Gogh.

We each had to choose a painting we would like to climb into.  I chose a painting by Claude Monet called ‘Water-lilies – Setting Sun’.   After this we went down the stairs to take the coach home.

My favourite painting was the ‘Adoration of the Shepherds’.   The trip was fantastic.’
