Drama:  Juniors and Seniors together

Posted: 8th February 2019

A visit to Sky Academy.

Ms Brown, Head of Drama, reports on the visit on 5th February of the Senior Drama Gifted and Talented pupils, who this week visited Sky Academy.

‘Our Drama Department at St Augustine’s Priory has forged links with industry at Sky Academy, where pupils made action movie trailers this week using state-of-the-art TV equipment and green screen, under the guidance of media professionals.

Thirty-one pupils from Upper II to Upper IV visited the Sky Academy Studios, using the power of TV and innovation to spark their imagination and enhance their Creativity, Collaboration and Communication.

This visit of the Drama Gifted Pathway to Sky Studios visit helped pupils to see Drama in the Sky programme, the Bigger Picture.  On their website Sky says, ‘At Sky, we go beyond the screen to bring you the Bigger Picture. We are inspiring more people to participate in sport, creating new opportunities for young people to express themselves and taking positive action to drive change on major issues in the world today.’

Our pupils took advantage of the facilities and expertise on offer at Sky Academy and enjoyed a fantastic, hands-on learning experience in which students created their own TV content. The Sky Academy experience fostered excellent team work skills, with juniors and seniors working together in production teams to produce a short film.

Pupils learned about the working life of TV Sports Journalists, and enjoyed a peek into the Sky Sports News Room, as well as exploring the various roles from cinematographer to editor first hand in their own studio.’
